An important note

Here is an important note about my postings from the books that I read:
I do not intend in any way to steal the authors work - I just add summaries that appear on the books so others can decide if they like to read them as well.
Also, my opinion should be respected and if you absolutely do not like (meaning hate) any books that I love - feel free to tell me (if you like) but do so in a polite manner.

Fade - by Lisa McMann

As soon as I finished the book Wake and read a preview about the sequel I had to get the second part of the trilogy.
Fade starts where the first book let you off.

But first a brief summary again from the back of the book:
For Janie and Cabel, real life is getting tougher than the dreams. They're just trying to carve out a little (secret) time together, but no such luck. Disturbing things are happening at Fieldridge High, yet nobody's talking. When Janie taps into a classmate's violent nightmares, the case finally breaks open--but nothing goes as planned. Not even close. Janie's in way over her head, and Cabe's shocking behavior has grave consequences for them both.
Worse yet, Janie learns the truth about herself and her ability. And it's bleak. Seriously, brutally bleak. Not only is her fate as a Dream Catcher sealed, but what's to come is way darker than she'd even feared...

At the very end of the first book Wake we learn that Janie has started to be an undercover cop (just like Cabel) for their boss who they simply have to call `Captain`.
We find out that Mrs. Stubin has been working for Captain for many many years too (until she got really sick and passed away). Captain knows about Janie's ability from the beginning - and when a phone call gets into the station Captain does not hesitate to ask for Janie's help in that case.
Janie got better with controlling her appearance in the dreams of others - she can pause and look around in the dream to find clues, she can also speed up or slow down the actions and most of all she can help have a positive turnout for the dreamer.
Because he is still in love with her, Cabel volunteers his dreams for Janie to practice.

But how can the crime that occurred at Janie's high school be solved if she does not know into which dream she has to fall into to find all the evidence that is needed to bust the bad guy(s)???

If you read this book who will find out...

Again, I loved this book and I got drawn into it from page one - I love that.
Unfortunately I did not find the third installment of the trilogy - which is titled Gone.

Wake - by Lisa McMann

The first book that I chose for this New Years Project was Lisa McManns book Wake.

I will copy a brief summary from the back of the book:
For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams is getting old. Especially the falling dreams, the naked-but-nobody-notices dreams, and the sex-crazed dreams. Janie's seen enough fantasy booty to last her a lifetime.
She can't tell anybody about what she does -- they'd never believe her, or worse, they'd think she's a freak. So Janie lives on the fringe, cursed with an ability she doesn't want and can't control.
Then she falls into a gruesome nightmare, one that chills her to the bone. For the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant....

What made me interested in this book is its theme about dreams - and in this case Janie can attend the dreams of others.
Also I chose a young adult writer because I need to get into a good habit of reading regularly again, and those books are easily written.
I did love Lisa's way of drawing you into the character from the first page on and having a great descriptive language, yet she gets to the point really fast and sometimes telling less adds to the already existing suspense factor.
I loved it and it was an easy read. A good start for me.

Now here are a few more details I would like to add (just to prove that I did read it and know the story with its characters):
1. I enjoyed the starting relationship with Janie and Cabel (who is helping her; even though she appears in his dreams too, since he is in love with her), at the end we also find out for whom he is working for...
2. Mrs. Stubin (an old lady at the retirement home where Janie works) has a deep secret that will be revealed to Janie and so she has a lot more help to offer than Janie thinks at first...
3. Attending someone else`s dream does have its benefits too (so Janie knows a few secrets about her classmates - who dose off every once in a while - and they have no idea about that)...

But being a dream catcher does have consequences too, and although Mrs. Stubin does help Janie, she ultimately knows what Fate awaits for her...
